What is @idrawmarinecreatures?
Or rather-- who-- is @idrawmarinecreatures? @idrawmarinecreatures is a passion project created by me (Miranda) in a time of massive transition in my life. I was at the tail end of a cross-country roadtrip and faced with a big decision I needed to make: What next? I remember sitting on a rock on the coast of Maine thinking to myself, "I can't believe people get paid to spend all of their time by the ocean." Then it hit me: Why wasn't I getting paid to spend all of my time by the ocean? I mean, I had spent enough time by it at this point. Okay, so how do I do that? How do I make it a reality? This is where the idea of school entered my mind. Do I go back to school? Or even better question, should I got back to school? I stewed on it for 24 hours, and then I had made a decision. I want to spend the rest of my years working on/with/around/in the ocean. It's called to me my entire life, and now it's time to follow through. I enrolled in Oregon State University, and dove straight into the obsession. I wanted an excuse to read more about marine life, so I started drawing marine creatures. Sea turtles, Nautilus, Orcas, Squid, Pelicans, Humpback Whales, Groupers, you name it. I had drawn around 15 different creatures when I decided should post them. Not for recognition or clout, but just so I could get show someone, because I was excited. I decided that I wasn't going to put my name on any of them though, I was just going to name the account @idrawmarinecreatures, and keep myself anonymous. I did this because I had just gotten done with another project that leaned heavily on my name, and I wanted to avoid that this time around. But then, I decided to make a coloring book. Why not? I had all of the outlines already, why not just add a few activities and games and create a book out of them? So, So that's what I did, and that's where I am. For these books, I have chosen to tell you my name and let you see who I am because, to me, it's important that you know that a person makes these. A person that spent hours hand-drawing each image, specially designing each activity, and putting each page together. That person is me, and I am incredibly proud of the product that I've made. I hope you love it as much as I do.

// SAVE OUR OCEANS - Coloring & Activity Book // Now available

A percentage goes to conservation
I created this coloring book as a way to help fund my education as a marine biology student, but also as a way to help fund the efforts of organizations created to help further ocean conservation. But, I don't want to make the decision for you. When you are checking out, one of the required questions is where you want your money to go. I will have a list of three hand-picked organizations that you can choose from. There is also a dropdown list with 15 other companies if you prefer one of those. Outside of my selections, if there is a different ocean conservation organization that you prefer, feel free to email me and let me know where you want your contribution to go and I will look into it!
Thanks for your support!
Upcoming projects
The first coloring book was made to help communicate current ocean science information in a short-art format for anyone willing to learn. Because I think that this has been such a great medium for science communication, I have decided to extend the @idrawmarinecreatures brand to three new books! All of the books are still under construction as of right now due to my incredibly busy school/volunteer/work schedule, but I am working on them as quickly as I can.
If you find yourself really excited about the upcoming collections and want to know if there is a way for you to support, you can purchase a current volume of Save Our Oceans Coloring & Activity Book or donate directly to me, my projects, and my education down above. If you have any questions at all, you can also feel free to reach out to me via email.
Thanks!

Contact Me

All of the projects that I work on are extremely important to me. I hand-draw and specifically design everything that's in every one of the books, and I put them together with a lot of effort and love. That said, I am a big believer that hearing feedback is incredibly important to the creative process, so I would like to hear from you.
If you:
-
Need to suggest a contribution company for your coloring book purchase
-
Would like to work with me on a project
-
Want to leave feedback about an existing book
-
Would like to suggest other book ideas
Then:
This is your space to do it. I would love for this project to become a community project, for the community, by the community, and I believe the best way to do that is to open up a line of communication.
That said, I am very excited to present my current book, Save Our Oceans - Vol 1, and can't wait for you to see what else I have in the works.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Miranda (@idrawmarinecreatures)
